UX Innovation Leader



Excella is seeking a designer who is a thought leader in UX to expand awareness of our design capabilities to current and potential clients, and the larger technology community. The selected candidate will be a key contributor to Excella’s Innovation Team, working with key stakeholders, developers, and designers to collaborate on effective solutions and participate in our business development efforts. If you want to be a critical presence within a growing organization dedicated to expanding its reach and capabilities, then we are looking for you. This role reports directly to our VP of Innovation.


As the UX Innovation Lead, your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Acting as a thought leader within Excella, dedicated to the growth and reputation of our design practice.
  • Engaging with the UX, technology, and agile communities as the face of our design capabilities.
  • Speaking at conferences, meet-ups, and industry events.
  • Collaborating with our Marketing, Excella Labs, and Strategic Growth teams to build brand awareness through content creation.
  • Taking a leadership role in Excella’s business development efforts, including early-stage capture and solutioning, as well as technical challenges and presentations.
  • Coaching and mentoring other designers.
  • Providing excellent service delivery to our clients as you help them achieve their organizational goals by solving mission-critical problems.


  • B.A. or B.S. (focus in Library Sciences, Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related area of study is a plus).
  • An active presence within the design community, ideally with experience speaking at events and creating UX related content.
  • Strong capabilities in the full lifecycle of UX and design, including user research, information architecture, content strategy, interaction design, service design, user interface design and visual design.
  • Extensive Federal experience, ideally within United States Digital Services (USDS), 18F, and/or at a firm in the Digital Services Coalition.
  • Experience leveraging Agile principles and practices to deliver software development and data solutions.
  • A design portfolio including case studies and samples of work.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
  • Previous contributions to business development efforts (Preferred)
